Gary SkentelBery

Which show(s) do you host?

The Rock Show on Saturday evenings (10pm-midnight) which is also repeated on Sunday at the same time.

What is your background?

A fan of heavy rock and heavy metal since the age of 11, I cut my teeth as a gig goer in the late 70s and early 80s during the new wave of British heavy metal seeing many of the great bands including AC/DC, Status Quo, Motorhead, Whitesnake, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Saxon and Thin Lizzy to name but a few.

Why is music your passion?

Not being able to sing or play an instrument (like most rock stars!) rock music became my outlet – especially live gigs.

Why Radio Warrington?

I became one of the founding members of Radio Warrington, initially as a news source via Warrington Worldwide and even read the news every day at one time. Eventually I was dubbed ‘The Rock God’ by station manager Steve Lewis who talked me into having my own weekly slot which is sometimes solo, sometimes with Adrian Derbyshire and sometimes with special guests.

Tell us something interesting about you?

Having worked in Warrington for 40 years and been dubbed “Mr Warrington” by many there is not a lot people don’t know – but I also have a keen interest in local history and am a life member of the Burtonwood Association and a supporter of Warrington Civic Society.
